Live Review: Amy Roberts & Richard Exall Quintet at Under Ground Theatre

Amy Roberts/Richard Exall Quintet

The Under Ground Theatre, Eastbourne

Friday 11th December 2015

A very happy way to end another year of attending and photographing jazz gigs. Five talented and versatile musicians playing tribute to such luminaries as Earl Bostic, Lester Young, Duke Ellington, Johnny Hodges, Chopin (yes!), Sergio Mendes, Dizzy Gillespie, and so on almost ad infinitum. What’s not to like? Old favourites Tico Tico, Bernie’s Tune, Doo Doo, Harlem Nocturne, Limehouse Blues, and Over the Rainbow were dusted down and performed with gusto and style.

Wholeheartedly recommended, as is their new CD, ‘Why Not?’.

And now for the new year…A happy 2016 to everyone, and remember, keep jazz live, keep going to the gigs.
