Live Review: Remi Harris Project at The Brunswick, Hove

Remi Harris Project

Wednesday 14th January 2015

The Brunswick, Hove

What a way to kick off the new year. My first gig. Until about a month ago I must admit I had not even heard of Remi Harris. What an error!

The compact room at the Brunswick pub provided the ideal intimate surroundings for two amazing guitar sets. Heavily influenced by Django Reinhardt, Remi nevertheless played not only Gypsy music, but the following: the blues, bossa nova, standards, e.g. Putting on the Ritz, Pennies From Heaven, Thelonious Monk’s ‘Round Midnight, a lovely version of the Beatles’ Can’t Buy Me Love and Have You Met Miss Jones, in the style of Joe Pass, as a solo, and finishing with rousing versions of Sweet Georgia Brown and Cherokee.

More than ably accompanied by AC Wood on rhythm guitar, and Mike Green on bass, this is a must see, hear trio.

Remi Harris, guitars; AC Wood, rhythm guitar; Mike Green, bass.
