Live Review: Mark Bassey Trio at All Saints Church

Mark Bassey Trio

All Saints Church, Hove

Wednesday 8th July 2015, 1pm

With gentle latin tunes such as Triste flowing gently across the large, beautiful All Saints church, Mark Bassey’s trio brought a relaxing and mellow experience to a warm summer’s day in Hove.

Joined by bassist Dave Whitford and guitarist Colin Oxley, the trio performed standards, such as East of the Sun, and some originals by Mark Bassey to an appreciative audience. With solid timekeeping from both Whitford and Oxley, Bassey was able to solo dynamically and interact musically with the band.

Although they had a limited time to perform they squeezed in a lot of tunes, with a varied set, and ended with just enough time for a bright and cheerful Cherokee.

More lunchtime jazz at All Saints Church:

Wednesday 5th August: Jonathan Vinten, Steve Thompson & Piers Clark, 1pm.

Wednesday 9th September: Allison Neale & Rob Barron, 1pm.
