Live Review: Charlotte Glasson Band at The Verdict

Charlotte Glasson Band

The Verdict, Brighton

Tuesday 29th April, 2014

Multi-instrumentalist Charlotte Glasson returned to her home town of Brighton to launch her new album Festivus and begin her nationwide tour. Playing tunes from the new album, she explained that she wanted to call the album ‘Festival’ but was reminded of the ‘Festivus for the rest of us’ episode from Seinfeld.

With experienced players such as Chris Spedding on guitar and Mick Hutton on bass, the group provided an evening of energetic, upbeat music with lots of fun and humour. Drummer Sam Glasson provided a driving momentum, particularly on the latin numbers. Trombonist Mark Bassey provided both humour, backing lines and creative solos whilst Charlotte performed effortlessly on flute, saxophone, violin and musical saw.

You can see Charlotte Glasson’s band on Tuesday 13th May at Hare & Hounds, Worthing and on Friday 30th May at Ropetackle Arts Centre. They also appear briefly at the Broadway Festival in Haywards Heath on Sunday 25th May.
